A summary of human physiology

Human physiology , put simply , is the science of how the human body. Anatomy, physiology that is often confused , is the study of what the body is made of .

Systems of the human body

The human body is composed of several systems that work together to ensure the proper functioning of the body. Most systems are interconnected and some of the components of a system can also be a component or have an additional function in another system .

There are ten major body systems which are as follows :

Circulatory system : the heart is responsible for pumping blood to the body through the veins and arteries. The blood must circulate the body continuously to provide oxygen and fuel to the organs, muscles and skin

Gastrointestinal system : starting with the mouth and ending with the rectum , the system processes the food and converts it into fuel and ejects a waste product from the anus

Reproductive system : male and female genitalia and associated organs for reproduction

The endocrine system is made up of all the major glands that are responsible for the hormonal communication system of the body

Integumentary system : it is a long term coverage of the body ie skin , nails and hair and sweat glands . In addition to acting as a "container" for the body content and the protection of organs, the skin is covered with sensors and transmits these sensory signals to the brain

Musculoskeletal system : the skeleton and muscles responsible for our structure and the general form

Respiratory system : nose, trachea and lungs which ensure the body is getting enough oxygen

Urinary: responsible for the discharge of water from unwanted wastes from the blood , called urea

Nervous system network of nerves that connects the brain to the body . The brain makes thought , and is capable of producing emotions and treat the senses ie sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing.

Immune system : This system protects or attempts to protect the body against disease . If any foreign objects get and try to attack the body, the immune system sends proteins to try to destroy them.
All these systems have their own areas of physiology which are usually considered as separate modules. Students with a particular taste or bias towards one area may choose to go on to become specialists in this field. For example , research on the immune system would allow modern day conditions such as AIDS, and physicians researching the field of physiology , immunology be become an immunologist .

Human physiology is a fascinating subject and just one of many areas of science that study on their way to becoming a general practitioner or surgeon doctors. In addition to being essential in the medical field , a good knowledge of human physiology is also vital for professional athletes such as coaches and physiotherapists. Also in the world of complementary medicine therapies , such as acupuncture and massage, it is very important to understand how the body works in order to be able to effectively administer treatment without damaging the body.
